Reflecting on Jody Vance’s interview, I think notable individuals use social media in a more cautious way. Jody Vance is a public person, and she was paid to speak up her opnions. She has developed her reputation through her career, so every word she says has more influence than others. I think sometimes occupation’s ethic code do set constrains on individuals behaviours on social media, because if they spread messages that against the code, it might affect their career as well. Teachers for example, have to remain as a teacher or remember themselves as a public person in the social media platform. Although their freedom of expression was being protected by the law, the level of freedom was bound by their code of ethics.
The benefits of being in the public eye is what also constrains the notable individuals’ freedom of expression. Nevertheless, their words weigh more than others because they represent voices of authority or voices that can challenge the authority. These notable individuals’ PLN is also very likely to spread similar messages. For example, in BlackLivesMatter movement, notable public people spoke up, and that helped the movement to have more influence.

I agree with the idea that the voice of celebrities helps enlarge the influence of a certain campaign. I think that’s what the public pays so much attention to the responses or comments of the celebrities when it comes to some influential things. For example, people expect celebrities to express empathy during earthquakes and to express their firm stands of patriotism regarding the matters of some brands insulting our homeland. Such expectations are justified because celebrities should make proper use of their influence.

Hello Tianqi,
Notable people do have an influence on society, but their actions are being watched by others at all times. I think it is good to be a notable person since it is easier to spread ideas in the public; at the same time, being a notable person is not easy since they have to pay attention to their speech and actions, as well as things they promote. Thanks for creating this great blog post!
Cheers,
Anna
